Egida Aurea

Recensione tratta da:  http://www.filthforge.altervista.org/

EGIDA AUREA
"Storia Di Una Rondine"
Wolf Age Records - 2007
mini CD

After Ianva and Recordinta Stirpe, it's time to salute the debut of another extraordinary Italian folk band from Genova. Egida Aurea is the name of this new group, born as a private expression of Diego Banchero, member of Recondita Stirpe and, previously, of cult dark progressive bands such as Malombra and Il Segno Del Comando. "Storia Di Una Rondine" is a four-tracks mini CD that marvellously introduces the listener to a world of powerful and violent passions, superbly conjured by the evocative music and the charming yet aggressive female vocals of Carolina Cecchinato. The title-track describes the tragic story of a soldier who spends his last days hidden on top of a belfry, with nothing left but his rifle and enemies and traitors to shoot down. The character is portrayed with intense pathos and poetic dignity, words like knives or stray bullets, filled with anger, yet deeply moving. Carolina's voice is sharp and straight forward, mesmerizing the listener with the exalting power of the rhymes and the epic choir. This first song is worth alone the purchase of the CD.
But, the rest of the EP is not less interesting, with the dark popular chanson of "L'Ottobre Nero Di Mosca", where the most famous October in the history of humankind turns from red to black, and is not exactly celebrated by its haunting accordion, the fierce battle hymn of "Il Giorno Delle Chimiche Brume", and the final ancient Macedonian ritual of "Theos Aniketos". A fantastic debut for Egida Aurea, that shows what trained musicians with a refined taste are capable of. "Storia Di Una Rondine" will appeal to the neofolk audience, but what you find in this CD is much more than simple and stereotyped neofolk, the influences go clearly far beyond, and this is music of the soul, expressed at its very best. Very recommended!
